A Story of Transformation

It was an extended journey for me. I battled alcohol dependency for nearly thirty years, starting frequent consumption at seventeen and stopping at forty-four. I moved from being removed from my residence to restoring my marital relationship. In that very year, my spouse and I commemorated our 34th anniversary, and I was awarded my 14-year sobriety token from AA. My son, who previously sent me a note detailing his distress only ten years prior, now frequently expresses his affection. I have developed authentic connections; no longer confined to associating solely with fellow addicts, I now engage with a variety of individuals I can genuinely depend on. Previously, my social circle was limited, and interactions were often transactional. Through the recovery process, I discovered that others extend help out of true compassion. This positive experience motivated me to contribute back, leading to a fulfilling internship where I assisted many who were seeking change, some required by the courts but all eager for support. Similar to them, I once needed assistance but wasn't sure how to request it.
